Wide-track Independent Suspension with Sway Bar: Trikes with solid axles have four times as much unsprung weight as the Hannigan Trike. Our trike has similar unsprung weight to the original Gold Wing. Too much unsprung weight results in a harsher ride. (Critical Law of Physics – For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction). The solid axle drawback is the sideways motion transmitted to the motorcycle seat. When only one rear wheel of the trike hits a bump the sideways motion creates a negative effect on the lower back of the rider and passenger. Our independent suspension has almost no lateral forces on the motorcycle seat. This creates a much healthier, more comfortable ride for rider and passenger.
Our 60-inch wide track and CRX sports car stabilizer has made the Hannigan Trike one of the safest and most stable trikes available. The Hannigan Trike with its wide track and CRX stabilizer will out corner most trikes. This superb combination will allow you to run with most of your two wheel companions on twisty roads. This no compromise trike has the best combination of plush ride and sporty handling.
Progressive Suspension I.A.S. Gas Shocks: make them user friendly. Inertia sensitive damping enables the wheel to react quickly to rough surfaces while still maintaining full damping control for taut precise handling.
In-line drive shaft: We use the original BMW drive shaft in its original position to ensure smooth running and unbeatable reliability.
Drive Train: The 7.5 inch Ford Thunderbird differential has 2.73 gears. The Michelin tires are 195/55 R16.
Auxiliary Fuel Tank: The tank holds approximately 4 1/2 gallons. They have trike conversions with a separate filler neck for convenience. The rider-activated fuel pump transfers the fuel from the TIG-welded heavy gauge aluminum tank to the main tank. The trike frame holds the tank in order to extend the fuel range with maximum safety.
Vented Disc Brakes Vented Disc Brakes cool quicker than regular disc brakes. We have retained the original ABS system. This increased the longevity and provides greater reliability.
Tail Lights: The Hannigan Trike uses the original K1200 KL tail light assembly, plus two additional signal lights. This insures great visibility.
Storage Trunk: The storage trunk is a carpeted trunk and is approximately 7 cubic feet.
Style: Our aggressive looking hand-laminated trike body with integrated front and rear ground effects is a real eye catcher. It blends wonderfully with the BMW K1200 LT Series body style. The original BMW mufflers exit behind the rear ground effects for a beautiful custom look. We use custom Mag wheels with top-of-the-line Michelin tires.
The Hannigan Trike on the BMW K1200LT has a 73" wheelbase w/Steer Lite, 113" length w/Steer Lite, 61.5" width, 51" track width, and 6.0 cu.ft. trunk capacity.
